Kishore Balakrishnan is the third-generation head of Balakrishna Jewellery. He took over the shop in [PLACEHOLDER year] from his father, K. C. Balakrishnan — whose name the shop carries — and has run it since with the same combination of patience and exactness that defined his grandfather’s tenure. His mornings still begin the way his father’s did: a walk through the workshop, a check of the day’s pieces with the karigars, a cup of tea with whichever of the older customers has dropped in.
He believes a jewellery shop is, above all, a place where a family should feel unhurried. He sits with every bride who comes for a muhurtam consultation. He answers every question on weight and purity himself. He keeps prices keen and quotes them once.
Beside him now is his son, Jayaram Kishore — the fourth generation of this family at the same counter, learning the trade the way each one before him did. The shop was founded in 1955 by Late Chammi Moothan; four generations later, it has never left the family or the road.
No counter in this family has ever been opened without the nilavilakku, and the eldest hand present is the one that lights it. Everything else — the gold, the customers, the day's first sale — waits until the wick catches.
It is the one ritual that has survived every change of generation, every move, every gold boom. The people standing around it change. The lamp does not.

Our gold rate is the day’s published rate, our making charges are quoted once and held, and we do not believe in the seasonal “discount” that is only a markdown from an inflated tag. What you pay is what the piece is worth — and what we would charge our own family.
Any piece that leaves this shop is welcome back — for resetting, for redesigning, for exchange against a new commission, for the next generation. We weigh it in your presence and credit you the full gold value, without deduction, for as long as the family is ours.
